this is a scary book. mainly because of the thought that someone thought all the ideas in here up. but also because of its social ramifications. the latter only wins out because mr mirbeau is well and truly dead. it tells the tale of a man and a woman that travel to china to visit a, guess what, torture garden. read it on an empty stomach.
