Jazz/Funk Musical Influence with House and Garage Music!

However, the group that was to typify the British Jazz Funk sound, and that was the group called Light of the World. Their first attempts in making this style of music was by trying to sound as much like their heroes (Fatback Band, Lonnie "Liston" Smith, Crusaders, Commodores, Earth, Wind and Fire) as possible. But as time moved on they fused their own style of Jazz funk fused with lyrics about London life and the Police system.

Their first album called Light of the World was taken well by the London dance crowd

For their second album release called "Round Trip", saw how the boys had become more polished. It showed the music world that they had managed to perfect a more Soulful side to their music, which included the modern day anthem "London Town" within their album set.

Lotw most famous album Round Trip that received praise around the world

However, their short success story came to an end. Thegroup were soon to break up after appearing at the Hammersmith Odeon in London their first solo date. It was the last time that the group were to play together in their original line up.

When the break up of Light of the World came to head; smaller, splinter projects were formed from the group. One was Incognito, that now enjoys chart success today. They were a more jazz orientated outfit formed form Light of the World. The produced the classic under ground single called "Parisian Girl", that is now being exchanged for serious money. So check out that Rare Groove!! They went on to produce an album after appearing at countless small venues in and around London called "Jazz/Funk" that went into the top Twenty album charts without no promotional push.(The year was 1982)

Incognito first album reached the charts as well

Beggar and CO another group formed out of the split from Light of the World, were a more Funk orientated act that managed to obtain chart success with the classic "Somebody Help me out" that reached the top ten status in England during UK, during 1981.
Jazz Funk, although initially meaning Jazz Fusion, became a term that embraced a number of black dance music styles within the UK, and helped giving it a better understanding. Garage and Deep House music's increasing dependence on Jazz/Funk music samples - especially from the UK shows that we should pay homage, and raise our hats to the people and artists that we would be much poorer for if they hadn't been around. Other music such as Drum and Bass acts are also featuring theseJazz/Funk samples and riffs within their music via Garage and Deep House's lead!!!. Also should thank their stars that this period of music actually took place!! Acid/Jazz, no, no no!!! Forget that labeling this was the first true meaning of Jazz fusing with Funk remember that!!!

Below is a chart of my all time favourite tracks within the Jazz/Funk field that have been used to create great Garage and House music!
