"Carl's Garage and House Website"

Kisstalk - March - 1999

Kiss Comments by readers of

The Kiss 100 fm, London, England debate raised quite few eyebrows
when it was first shown on the Web Site
on the 10th February, 1999.

Here below are just a few replies to the report that was written...

Right on, brother...

I've never heard Kiss 100 FM
either before or after but I can only imagine...

It sounds like the bullshit commercial stations
that we have here that are only concerned
with getting the most money out of their listeners whilst narrowing
their audience down to the most conservative of listeners
who think the latest Blondie track is what it's all about.

Every time I've been in the UK, I've always admired FM radio,
because they seemed to be free from the commercialism
that abounds in the US.

Sorry to hear that things are taking a turn for the worse...

i.e. moving in the direction of US commercial radio.

I can share your views on Kiss. Btw can you receive in Ipswich, England
or do you access it via the net?

It has gone steadily commercial during the daytime.
The music is no different to "Capital or Radio One",
only thing they dont play rock music or trashy pop.
You may hear the odd spice girls.

I find it boring as the same Commercial swing, R'n'b
hits will be heard as well as the dance staples.
It is not surprising as Kiss do release their own
Dance Anthems compilation albums full of commercial tracks.

When I go to an ordinary night club, you tend to hear the same records played on Kiss, Radio one etc and I find it boring.

Also they have used a number of celebrity presenters:
ie Dani Behr, etc all on the aptly named Full Frontal 4 till 8 show.

It is off now replaced with a different format.
They even have Sunday Sport nude model pin up
"Lynsey Dawn Mckenzie" doing a show I believe it is mornings.

"Steve Jackson" did the morning slot
and to his credit got presenter of the year in the Sony radio awards.

Surprisingly he beat heavyweights like Chris Evans Zoe Ball, Chris Tarrant.

He is an underground dj and had the established House that Jack built show. It show he can do both.

He left the station. I was surprised he went after the success of the morning show. Also the "House that Jack" built is now hosted by Spoony in his place.

I beleive it has a different name and format.

"The Dreem Teem" are now their big time djs.
I believe they do 2 or is it 3 shows not just their usual Sunday show.

"Rodigan" is on Sunday.
"Trouble" is on Thursdays 12 midnight to 3am.

Is that changed to another grave yard shift? He was always a Saturday night regular.

Remember a report I sent to you on my trip to the Loft

The doorman I got talking to told me how the station was changing becoming more commericial and moving his slot which caused much anger as a result.

I always wondered why "Trouble" appears to have cult following,
and is not hyped as much, or appears on the Kiss fm gigs like the other djs.

You also dont hear of him standing in for someone else's slot
ie the Drive time show, usually Spoony or one of the Dreem teem
does it if they need a stand in.

Kiss 100 FM is only good for the dj shows in the evenings
ie Tuff jams, Bobbi and Steve, Trouble, etc.

I don't think they have a proper
soul music music with Jazz funk, Rare groove etc...

A few years ago they had "Caesar the Geezer" doing a nightly phone in show.

Also they even played
50's rock and roll in a nightly slot to show the origins of funk rap etc.

They could do something showing the origins of
House, Garage from Disco, Soul music etc.

However the internet is usefull because your site
is one of the few places where one can find this out!

Hmmm if I complete my dissertation project,
I am running into problems and dont know if I will complete the course.
I may do something on the 'demise' or change in music direction of Kiss

About your Kiss FM page

I used to listen to Kiss on 94FM before they were legal. Things on the air have changed so much since then. There was absolutely no dance music played on legal radio then. Pirates like Sunrise and Centre Force were huge. But you could only pick them up in if you lived in London. Now I can listen to Pete Tong and Judge Jules on Radio 1, England here in Germany via satelite! Daytime radio has always been crap and probably will always be.
