The group was formed in the Spring of 2007
with the aim of creating a Community Woodland of native trees in Yoxford village. This will provide a wonderful amenity
for local people and a haven for birds and other wildlife.
We were kindly offered a suitable site by Malcolm and June
Purvis who own and run the Yoxford Antiques Centre. The Lease was finalised in December 2008.
Yoxford School has joined
the project and the children have started collecting and planting seeds in the tree nursery at the school. Some of these
trees, along with donated trees were planted as part of a successful Guiness world record attempt. Over 100 trees were
planted by the village in December 2009.
Ths site was opened to the Public in November after installing a Noticeboard,
and the first of two pedestrian gates.
Ongoing projects are to install a second pedestrian access, shed and a tree bench
around the large Oak tree.
Future Projects to construct a winter shelter/hide and to look at involving the local children
in making a wormery, construct a log pile and to provide bird and bat boxes.
We are now setting up work parties to weed,
cut grass, etc. If anybody would like to offer any help that would be fantastic.
Please check out our website or village
boards for details.
Any general helpers who can assist with funding applications, administration, leafleting, manning
stalls, organising events, gardening etc would be very welcome, even if you can only offer the odd half hour. Please feel free
to contact us by e-mail E-mail from here
