SAAB 900 AND TESCO PETROL PUMP

29th September 1998

Dear Sir

On the 23/9/98 at Tescos Stores Ltd Martlesham. while buying petrol from pump 16. I unfortunately got covered in petrol because there was a fault with the cut off mechanism. I pointed this out to the cashier Who told me that not only was pump 16 playing up but pump 2 was faulty as well. I was not offered any form of compensation or an apology. This is obviously a very dangerous situation with a large quantity of fuel being deposited on the forecourt as well as my trousers and shoes. Then having the indignity of smelling of petrol and having to wear somebody else’s cloths for the remainder of the day.

To make matters worse, me and a work colleague walking across the same garage forecourt the previous lunch time, observed a Tescos employee clearing up a similar spillage at the very same pump 16. I contacted your customer relations department on the 23/9/98 by phone and email via the internet but apart from an automatic acknowledgement have heard no more.

The above photograph was taken this morning 29/9/98 and as you can see the pump has been taken out of service. I trust that I will be compensated for this I think it would be reasonable to ask £100 to cover new shoes washing of cloths loss of petrol and the time spent. I trust that you will deal with this promptly otherwise I will be forced to take further action.

Yours Sincerely

Steve Rothery
